Babies have their own non-verbal language and it’s up to you to learn their language first. Luckily, the “baby speak” is pretty universal, so many moms before you have cracked the code making it possible for me to share those “baby speak” secrets with you.

How Baby Says, “I’m Getting Hungry!”

When your cutie starts to feel hungry she’ll give you some subtle signs to let you know. She might start by making a sucking sound or sucking on her fingers or hand. She may even bite her hand as she gets hungrier. If you don’t get the hint she’ll start to whimper, just like we do when we get too hungry. If you get her a bottle fast you’ll avoid the crying and screaming phase. Once you establish a good feeding schedule you’ll probably get the bottle ready before any of those cues begin.

How Baby Says, “Let’s Play!”

When your little one is craving your undivided attention she’ll perk up and show you her adorable wide eyes and her puckered lips. She may make cute baby noises like coos and babbles. Her movements will be smooth and controlled and she’ll try to grab for your finger or shirt. This is when you should break out some fun baby toys or play peek-a-boo to really bond with your baby.

How Baby Says, “I Need a Break!”

Just like adults who want a break, baby will start to disengage and look distracted. She’ll stop looking at you and start to squirm, kick her feet and maybe even push you away. Then the yawns or hiccups could start and if you still haven’t left her alone she may begin to whine or even cry. When your baby acts uninterested, give her some space, so she doesn’t get over-stimulated and upset.

How Baby Says, “I Want to Go to Sleep Now!”

Babies need tons of sleep throughout the day and night, so it’s important for parents to know the “I’m sleepy” cues. When a baby gets tired she may lie still and yawn or frown. Babies also tend to clench their firsts and rub their eyes or ears when they’re getting sleepy. This is the time to swaddle your little one in a baby blanket and put her in the crib and turn the musical mobile on. If your baby gets over tired she may start to whimper or cry and then you’ll need to calm her down before putting her to bed.

Extra Tips

The most important thing for new moms to do is to observe your baby very carefully for the first week. Jot down some of your baby’s non-verbal cues you witness throughout the day and see if you can relate them to something she wants. If you notice that your baby gets hungry at 8:00am, 11:00am, 2:00pm, 5:00pm etc… then consider putting her on an eating schedule at those times. If your cutie rubs her eyes at 10:00am and 3:00pm, make those times her nap times. You can even set a specific time each day for mommy/baby playtime. A schedule can be a baby and mom’s best friend to make every day easier and more fun!

Do you love the Kentucky Derby? If so, why not let your baby feel some Kentucky Derby love too by creating the cutest, horse themed Kentucky Derby nursery. Your cutie might be a little young to go to the actual race, but you can bring the horse race to your baby. We’ve put together a Kentucky Derby Nursery Inspiration board below to show you how easy this would be.

Your baby will adore the horse themed baby crib and when the horses on the musical mobile go round and round you could teach your child to cheer for her favorite horse to get her ready for the big day! For even more fun, place your baby on one of the rocking horses and imagine her riding the winning horse. The horse play sets make it easy for you to tell your child about the race and even let her pretend to have her own Kentucky Derby right in her room!

This horse nursery theme is also great for people who live on a farm or who simply just adore horses! You have to admit it’s really quite cute!

Parents today want to create a unique nursery that depicts today’s modern styles and one of the best ways to do that is to mix Babyletto nursery furniture with Sweet Potato crib bedding and nursery accessories. I hope you get some inspiration for your nursery design from the picture below that combines the Babyletto Mercer 3 in 1 Convertible Crib and Babyletto Modo 3 Drawer Dresser with all the crib bedding and nursery accessories from the Sweet Potato Domain Collection.

I chose these two baby furniture pieces because they are so beautiful and contemporary, with sleek lines and chic appeal. The crib and dresser can start as baby furniture, but will continue to retain their value later as they turn into big kid furniture. The crib is convertible, so it can transform into a toddler bed by removing the front rail and replacing it with a toddler guard rail. Then remove the rail all together to turn it into a daybed. The Modo 3 Drawer Dresser can start as a changing table with changing tray and pad on top and later be enjoyed as storage space.

I paired the Babyletto furniture with the Sweet Potato Domain Crib Bedding Collection because the bedding and accessories are so beautifully modern that they can go from baby room to toddler room with ease. I love the odd shaped squares through out the bedding pattern and all the bright colors that will add energy to the nursery.

This is one dynamic nursery furniture and baby bedding collection combo that will create a very modern and comfy nursery for your precious baby! Visit us today to see all the Babyletto Nursery Furniture and Sweet Potato Baby Bedding Collections.

If you’re having a baby then there are two nursery furniture pieces you must get for your baby’s first room…the crib and changing table. These are the two essentials because all babies sleep A LOT and wet their diapers A LOT! We happen to have several best selling, 2 piece nursery sets, but I’ve selected my three favorites to showcase below. I’m almost certain that you’ll love one of the following nursery sets, but if they’re not quite your style, visit us today at SimplyBabyFurniture to see thousands more.

DaVinci Kalani 3 in 1 Convertible Crib and Changer Combo in Espresso

The first thing you’ll notice about this nursery furniture set by DaVinci is its absolutely stunning design. This set will look amazing in any baby’s nursery. The second thing is that the Kalani Crib and Changer are attached, which makes morning and evening diaper changes just so much easier. Each piece in this set is made of solid New Zealand pine that comes from sustainable forests, so by getting this set you’ll be doing planet earth and your baby a favor. The crib is JPMA certified for supreme safety and the changer is designed with a top safety rail to keep your wiggly baby in place during every change. The changer also includes plenty of storage space for diapering supplies. As the years go by and your baby is out of diapers this set can be separated and the crib can convert to bigger beds and the changer can offer years of storage space as a stand-alone bedside unit. What’s not to love about the Kalani Convertible Crib and Changer Combo?

BabyLetto 2 Piece Nursery Set – Modo 3 in 1 Convertible Crib and 3 Drawer Dresser/Changer in White / Espresso

This is one absolutely gorgeous crib and changer combo. I totally LOVE the two tone finish of white and espresso that makes this set so modern. Both pieces are also built-to-last in form and function. The hardy, non-toxic stain will keep the crib and changer looking new for years and the crib can be converted to a toddler bed and daybed as your child grows. The changer will offer years of service in a room thanks to all the storage drawers and roomy top that’s perfect as a display space. The crib and changer are both crafted in a classic Italian style that is just amazing to see. These baby furniture pieces are also designed to last with solid rubberwood frames and a protective, non-toxic stain. This trendy nursery furniture pair will grow with your child. The crib transforms into bigger beds as years go by and the changer can be used as stylish storage space after it’s no longer needed as a changing space. Can’t you just picture your child enjoying this nursery furniture set way into his/her teenage years and beyond!

Hey all you moms-to-be listen up! Yes, it’s true that babies sleep a lot. Unfortunately these naps and snoozes happen in 3 or 4 hour spurts for the first few months, so your peaceful 8 hours of sleep at night is soon to become a distant memory.

When my first daughter was born she actually slept through the night for 7 straight hours when she was just a little over one month old. My friends were in shock and wanted to know my secret. As a new, proud mommy I just figured I had an amazing baby, but when I thought about it I realized that the one thing I spent big bucks on for the nursery was the crib bedding set. I bought a baby bedding set that was beautiful to look at with soothing colors and interesting images, plus it was super soft against my baby’s skin, so ofcourse she didn’t mind being in her crib. Even though she was an amazing baby, it was really the amazing baby bedding that helped her sleep so well.

If you’re expecting your first or second or third child, I’d recommend getting crib bedding from the Woodland Crib Bedding Collection by Dwell Studio. This baby bedding has it all: adorable woodland creatures like deer, bear, fox and turtles mixed with leaves and vines in a soothing mocha and white color combo. Dwell Studio also uses the best fabrics for their baby bedding, so this crib bedding set will feel great against your baby’s skin. If you add this baby bedding to the crib your little guy or girl is sure to want to stay in bed and enjoy the comfort of being surrounded by adorable animal pals while being cradled in total softness.

The Woodland Crib Bedding Collection also offers nursery accessories like: pillow, changing pad cover, stroller blanket and swaddle blanket to carry the nature and animal theme around the room to create a truly beautiful, serene baby space that both you and baby will love!

For first time parents, the day your baby arrives is such a joy, but the week after can be pretty stressful. This doesn’t have to be the case. Below I’ve put together a list of things that new parents need to know to make sure that first week with your baby is safe and happy.

1. Set up the Nursery: Everyone knows that babies sleep a lot, eat a lot and pee a lot, so make sure you have the baby furniture essentials that can make life easier for you and baby. This includes a crib, changing table, dresser and baby supplies like baby clothes, diapers, swaddling blanket, formula and bottles, burp cloths, bibs etc… Visit us at SimplyBabyFurniture to get everything you need in the nursery.

2. Preparing the Crib for a Safe Night’s Sleep: To keep baby as safe as possible when sleeping in the crib leave out all bulky baby bedding items, pillows and toys and make sure sheets are tucked in tight. Consider putting your baby in a wearable sleep sack to be used in place of a blanket for the first several months. Set up the baby monitor too, so you can hear if your baby needs you.

3. How to Bond with your Baby: Sometimes parents can get quite anxious during this first week, so it’s important to remember to do things to bond with your baby. Easy ways to bond are swaddling your baby in a receiving blanket and spending time cuddling; singing to baby; rocking baby to soft music and giving your baby full body massages.

4. When to Feed Baby: Babies tend to eat quite often during their first week and times will vary based on whether you’re breast feeding or bottle feeding. Typically babies eat every 3-4 hours and tend to wake up throughout the night for a snack. The most important thing is to observe your baby’s actions and you’ll quickly learn those “I’m Hungry!” signs.

5. When to Let Baby Sleep: Let your baby sleep whenever he’s cranky, which could result in up to 16 hours of sleep a day. Babies tend to sleep in spurts, so he’ll sleep some hours during the day and some at night, but usually no more than 3 – 4 hours at a time before he gets hungry and wakes up. Consider sleeping while baby is sleeping because you won’t be getting those 8 hours a night for at least 2 months. If you want to keep baby close to you at night then check out a co-sleeper that lets you keep baby by your bedside, but in his own baby crib.

6. Cleaning the House: Babies don’t care if the house is a mess, as long as the nursery and main room has been dusted and vacuumed to prevent baby allergies. Consider getting a cleaning service to come right before your baby arrives, so you don’t have to clean during your baby’s first week at home.

7. Taking Baby out in Public: Since your cutie pie won’t have a fully working immune system at birth, consider keeping him at home as much as possible for the first 6-8 weeks. Taking him for a walk around the block in a stroller or out on the porch is fine, but avoid taking your baby to crowded places where people with colds may be lurking.

8. Establishing a Support System: After baby arrives you are going to be tired, so think about inviting your mother or mother-in-law to come visit for a week. This way you’ll have someone else around who can help with the cooking or laundry or anything else that makes your first week as a new parent easier and less stressful.

Just remember that being a parent is new to you, but being someone’s child is new to your baby, so it’s going to take a little time to get into that comfort zone. Try to enjoy the first week as much as possible and spend that time getting to know your baby and soon enough your new parenting role will be easy as pie.

When you get that first contraction all you’re going to be thinking is “Ouch!!” and “Woo hoo my baby is coming!!!” and you’ll totally forget that there are specific things you need to take to the hospital. That’s why it’s important to prepare a list before hand. It’s good to pack your hospital bag in advance as well. Below I’ve put together that list to make it even easier for you. Just click copy, paste and print and your list is done. I hope this list helps lessen the stress, so you can really enjoy that special day when you finally meet your baby!

Important Documents

-Personal ID like driver’s license or passport
-Insurance Card
-Hospital paper work

Your Personal Items

-Birth Plan: Take your Birth Plan if you’ve created one. This plan is a written report that lets doctors know if you want drugs at certain times, how you wish to have the baby delivered, any soothing tools like music or massagers etc… you want during the birth.
-Glasses: if you wear contacts, but also have glasses take your glasses to the hospital encase you just don’t feel like popping in those contacts during your stay.
-Toiletries: Things like your tooth brush, hair brush, make-up, cream, deodorant and other basic items you use daily should be packed for that special day.
-Comfy Clothes: You’ll spend most of your time in a nightgown, robe, slippers and socks, so bring ones that you can be seen in while walking around the hospital halls. Bring a few extra outfits, like loose pants, baggy shirts, socks, comfy shoes, so you can get dressed on the final day and feel comfortable in what you’re wearing.
-List of Family and Friend’s phone numbers: Make a list of the names and numbers of everyone you want to call on that special day and pack it in your hospital bag way before that day arrives.

Entertainment Items

-Ipod or Musical Device: If you love music and want to hear your favorite tunes while giving birth make sure to bring your favorite CD or ask the doc if you can listen to tunes on your ipod during the special moment. Music can also keep you relaxed during the contractions and after your baby has arrived.
-Books and Magazines: Take some good reading materials to keep yourself entertained during the quiet hospital moments.
-Snacks: After your baby is born you may be a little hungry, so having a yummy snack in your hospital room is a good idea.
-Camera or Video Camera: You’ll definitely want some pictures of your precious baby, so make sure to pack your camera before the big day arrives.

For even less stress, make sure to get your baby’s nursery set-up by choosing a nursery furniture set way in advance and buy all your baby accessories before bringing your baby home. Consider getting a diaper bag to use as your hospital bag, so you can pack the hospital freebies you get like bottles of formula, diapers etc… to take home.

I saw this modern nursery design and just had to share it! I figured that today’s hip and modern mommies-to-be would love to see it and use the picture as inspiration when creating their own nursery. There are so many reasons why I totally love this modern nursery design and I’ve listed several of them below.

Love the neutral colored walls!
The first thing that sticks out about this trendy baby space is that the walls are a neutral color, so this room could be for a boy or girl with some minor accessory changes. The taupe walls with white trim and white baby furniture create such a soothing, yet beautiful space.

Impressed with the wall decals!
By adding fancy decals to one wall in this nursery it instantly took the space from drab to fab even before adding all the other cool nursery items. Better yet, these decals can be removed in later years and replaced with other decals that reflect the growing child’s likes and tastes to keep the room trendy and fresh.

Thrilled with the unique baby furniture!
It seems as if the room designer mixed and matched several unique and contemporary pieces of nursery furniture like the modern baby crib, stylish rocking chair, unique kid-size chair and chic end table. By combining various styles of baby furniture together it creates an eclectic, modern vibe in the space. That’s awesome!

Totally dig the trendy nursery accessories!
If you look around the room you’ll see some super cool nursery accessories with splashes of more vibrant colors like blue and yellow. There are pillows on the window sill bench and chair, plus a wild looking rug by the crib and fluffy rug by the kid’s chair. There is also some unique, round wall art that pulls the room all together. I also dig the banner-like piece that’s strung across the top of the window that gives the room a one-of-a-kind appeal.

Adore the lighting fixtures!
This designer thought of everything from the floor to ceiling. The table lamp’s unusual look goes beautifully with the contemporary room decor and the chandelier on the ceiling adds that touch of class, plus modern beauty as it lights up the space.

Hopefully this modern nursery design has given you some ideas of how to create a contemporary space for your baby and luckily, we offer all the baby furniture like modern cribs, nursery lighting, rugs, wall decals, rocking chairs and nursery gliders, pillows, crib bedding sets and everything else you need to design the perfect baby space! Design that modern nursery now by shopping with us today at SimplyBabyFurniture.com.
