How Baby Says, “I’m Getting Hungry!”

When your cutie starts to feel hungry she’ll give you some subtle signs to let you know. She might start by making a sucking sound or sucking on her fingers or hand. The most important thing for new moms to do is to observe your baby very carefully for the first week. Jot down some of your baby’s non-verbal cues you witness throughout the day and see if you can relate them to something she wants. If you notice that your baby gets hungry at 8:00am, 11:00am, 2:00pm, 5:00pm etc… then consider putting her on an eating schedule at those times. If your cutie rubs her eyes at 10:00am and 3:00pm, make those times her nap times. You can even set a specific time each day for mommy/baby playtime. 7. Taking Baby out in Public: Since your cutie pie won’t have a fully working immune system at birth, consider keeping him at home as much as possible for the first 6-8 weeks. Taking him for a walk around the block in a stroller or out on the porch is fine, but avoid taking your baby to crowded places where people with colds may be lurking.

8. Establishing a Support System: After baby arrives you are going to be tired, so think about inviting your mother or mother-in-law to come visit for a week. This way you’ll have someone else around who can help with the cooking or laundry or anything else that makes your first week as a new parent easier and less stressful.

Just remember that being a parent is new to you, but being someone’s child is new to your baby, so it’s going to take a little time to get into that comfort zone. Try to enjoy the first week as much as possible and spend that time getting to know your baby and soon enough your new parenting role will be easy as pie.

Bring a few extra outfits, like loose pants, baggy shirts, socks, comfy shoes, so you can get dressed on the final day and feel comfortable in what you’re wearing.
-List of Family and Friend’s phone numbers: Make a list of the names and numbers of everyone you want to call on that special day and pack it in your hospital bag way before that day arrives.

-Ipod or Musical Device: If you love music and want to hear your favorite tunes while giving birth make sure to bring your favorite CD or ask the doc if you can listen to tunes on your ipod during the special moment. Music can also keep you relaxed during the contractions and after your baby has arrived.
-Books and Magazines: Take some good reading materials to keep yourself entertained during the quiet hospital moments.
-Snacks: After your baby is born you may be a little hungry, so having a yummy snack in your hospital room is a good idea.
